In this very special episode, you get to meet Steph’s godfather, Ray Etzler, and his son Doug Etzler. If you are not familiar with the Etzler family, they are considered basketball royalty in northwest Ohio. Steph had been wanting to have a conversation with this family for a long time and as you will hear, it was an absolute honor for Kevin + Steph to have this opportunity.
Stories include…what Steph was actually like as a kid, the miracle that happened to Doug as a child, Ray’s coaching stories, Doug’s Ohio State basketball experience, and some hilarious fun facts!
Doug Etzler became a basketball legend at Convoy Crestview High School while playing for his father. Doug went on to play point guard for The Ohio State University from 1991-1995, serving as the team captain his senior year when he averaged 16.3 points per game. Doug still holds multiple Ohio State basketball records to this day.
Ray Etzler is a retired school educator and basketball coach, who was inducted into the Ohio High School basketball coaches Hall of Fame in 1996. In 2010, the Crestview Local Schools honored Ray by naming their high school gym the “Ray Etzler Gymnasium”. (For further proof of this basketball family, two of Ray’s grandchildren currently play basketball at Miami University and Ohio State.)
